Best TH16 Base Layouts 2026 — War, Farming & Trophy with Copy Links

TH16 changed the game with Merged Defense Buildings — and most base lists still don't account for it. Here's how to pick a layout that actually holds in 2026.

TH16 Is Different — And Most Base Sites Haven't Caught Up

You upgraded to Town Hall 16. You copy a base from one of the usual sites. Two days later you're getting 3-starred in war and can't figure out why.

Here's the thing — most TH16 base lists were built for TH14 logic. The layouts look similar, the advice is the same, and almost nobody talks about the one feature that makes TH16 fundamentally different: Merged Defense Buildings.

When Supercell introduced TH16, they didn't just add new defenses. They let you permanently fuse existing ones — Archer Towers become Multi-Archer Towers, Cannons become Ricochet Cannons. Each merged building changes your coverage radius, DPS, and pathing behavior. A base that worked beautifully at TH15 can become exploitable at TH16 if those merged buildings land in the wrong spots.

So before you copy anything, let's talk about what actually makes a TH16 base strong in 2026.

What Changed at TH16 (And Why It Affects Base Choice)

The Merged Defense system isn't cosmetic. These are the two main merges and what they actually do:

Multi-Archer Tower — Instead of one target, it shoots three simultaneously. Against mass funneling strategies like Super Bowlers or Super Witches, this thing shreds clustered troops. The key placement insight: it needs exposure to incoming paths, not burial deep in a compartment. Most copy-paste layouts position these wrong.

Ricochet Cannon — More than double the HP of a regular Cannon, and the ricochet effect punishes troops trying to path around it. Great at guarding dead zones and creating detour traps for heroes.

When you're choosing a base layout, look at where those merged defenses sit. Specifically:

  • Multi-Archer Towers should face likely entry points, not be sandwiched between storages where enemies rarely funnel
  • Ricochet Cannons work best flanking key compartments, forcing pathing decisions

Most players just copy whatever looks good in a screenshot. Now you know what to actually check.

The 4 TH16 Base Types — What Each One Is Actually For

War Base (Anti-3 Star)

Your war base has one job: don't get 3-starred. That's it. Resources don't matter. Trophies don't matter. You want opponents to spend their attack and walk away with 1 or 2 stars.

The best TH16 war bases in 2026 use heavy compartmentalization — islands of defenses separated by walls that force troops to burn through multiple layers before reaching the core. The Town Hall should sit deep, never on the edge, surrounded by the highest DPS buildings you have (Eagle Artillery, Scattershot, Inferno Towers).

What to look for: Dead zones around the TH, unpredictable pathing, and split entry points that make it hard to build a clean funnel.

Farming Base (Resource Protection)

The farming meta at TH16 is brutal. Players running Hydra or Blizzard attacks can strip your DE in under 30 seconds if your storage is exposed.

Good TH16 farming bases do two things: bury the Dark Elixir storage dead-center, and scatter Gold/Elixir storages around the outside as bait. Most attackers aren't going to risk a big army on a centralized DE if they can grab the edge loot first and leave.

Pro tip: Don't obsess over protecting everything. A base that protects 80% of your DE by sacrificing some Gold storages is doing its job.

Trophy Base (Defense Base)

If you're pushing Master or Champion League, your base needs to force attackers into a 1-star result. That usually means placing the Town Hall in an exposed-but-guarded position — far enough from loot to be annoying, defended enough that a rushed Town Hall grab costs the attacker troops.

The current trophy meta sees a lot of Blimp attacks. Air mines, Air bombs, and Seeking Air Mines should form a ring around your TH approach paths.

Hybrid Base

Hybrid layouts protect both resources and the Town Hall — useful when you're in Legends League or just hate picking a lane. They sacrifice some war resilience for loot protection. Good choice if you're actively farming between wars.

After You Copy: The One Thing Most Players Skip

You've imported a base. It looks great. Now — move your traps.

This is the step 90% of players ignore. The original trap placement in any copied layout is public knowledge. Experienced attackers check popular bases before war, recognize the layout, and know exactly where the Giant Bombs and Seeking Air Mines are.

Spend 5 minutes after importing to shift your:

  • Giant Bombs — move them one tile in any direction from where they landed
  • Seeking Air Mines — rotate their position around your core defenses
  • Spring Traps — place near chokepoints, not the obvious spots every template uses

This one habit alone takes a solid layout from average to genuinely frustrating to attack.

Current Meta: What TH16 Bases Need to Defend Against

The dominant attack strategies hitting TH16 war bases right now:

Queen Charge Hydra — The most common high-level war attack. Archer Queen clears one side, Electro Dragons follow. Your base needs to split the entry point and force the Queen into defenses early. Asymmetrical bases handle this better than symmetrical layouts.

Root Rider Spam — Root Riders ignore walls, so classic thin-wall compartment bases get destroyed. You need wide wall lines and deeply buried key defenses.

Super Witch + Bat Spell — Bats flood the base, Witches summon skeletons everywhere. Multi-Archer Towers shred this if they're positioned to face the incoming wave. Placement matters enormously.

RC Walk — Royal Champion hugs edges and picks off defenses one by one before the main army hits. Keep outer-ring defenses grouped so she can't isolate them.
