How to Choose the Best Farming Base in CoC

The best farming bases keep your loot storages buried deep inside the base, protected by your strongest defenses. Unlike war bases, a farming base intentionally exposes the Town Hall — letting attackers grab the easy win while your Gold, Elixir, and Dark Elixir stay locked away.

At lower TH levels, Giants are the biggest threat to your resources. Good farming bases funnel giants into kill zones using defenses and wall openings. From TH9 onwards, the biggest loot threats shift to surgical Queen Walks and LaLoon, so the best farming designs layer splash defenses around the storage cluster.

All our farming bases come with one-tap copy links updated to the current CoC meta. We test every base after major Supercell patches to make sure the defense still holds against top attackers.

FAQ

Farming Bases — Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is the best farming base strategy in Clash of Clans 2026?

The best farming strategy in 2026 is to use a base that exposes the Town Hall slightly while keeping all resource storages buried deep in the center. When attackers take the Town Hall quickly, they often leave without fully destroying your storages. Place Dark Elixir Storage at the very core surrounded by your strongest defenses, and spread Gold and Elixir Storages into separate compartments so raiders cannot drain them all in one attack.

2

Should a farming base hide or expose the Town Hall?

For farming purposes, it is generally better to place the Town Hall in a semi-exposed position near the edge of your base. This encourages attackers to take a quick 1-star and leave, collecting their loot bonus without destroying your resource storages. However, at TH10 and above, you should keep your Town Hall moderately protected since higher-level attackers are more likely to go for full loot regardless. The priority is always protecting Dark Elixir Storage above all.

3

How do I protect Dark Elixir while farming?

Dark Elixir Storage should always be placed at the deepest point of your base, surrounded by multiple wall layers and your strongest single-target defenses like Inferno Towers and X-Bows. Avoid placing the Dark Elixir Storage adjacent to the Town Hall — attackers targeting the TH will clean it out in the process. Instead, offset the Dark Elixir into a separate inner compartment that requires attackers to fully commit their army to reach.

4

What attacks should my farming base defend against?

At TH6–TH8, the biggest farming threats are Balloons, Giants, and Healers. From TH9 upward, Queen Walks, LaLoon, and Hybrid attacks dominate. Good farming bases counter these by layering splash defenses (Mortars, Wizard Towers) around the storage cluster to stop Giants and Healers, placing Air Defenses to punish Balloon and LaLoon raids, and using Giant Bombs and Spring Traps in predictable ground pathing corridors.

5

What is the difference between a farming base and a hybrid base?

A farming base sacrifices the Town Hall to protect loot — it is designed purely for resource defense, often at the cost of trophies. A hybrid base protects both the Town Hall and resources, making it better for players who want to maintain trophies while still protecting their loot. If you are in a farming season (upgrading heroes or buildings and not caring about trophies), use a dedicated farming base. If you want to hold trophies while protecting loot, use a hybrid layout.

6

How often should I change my farming base?

Change your farming base whenever you notice a significant increase in loot losses, typically every 2–4 weeks. Once a base is widely shared online, attackers learn the trap locations and wall compartment patterns. Swapping to a fresh layout resets this advantage. BaseCOC adds new farming bases regularly — use the "Newest" sort to find layouts that haven't been widely circulated yet.

7

What is the best TH level for farming Dark Elixir?

TH10 and TH11 are often considered the best farming levels because the Dark Elixir cap is high enough to matter, but the attack meta is not so overwhelming that you cannot protect your storage. From TH12 onwards, Super Troops make farming raids extremely efficient, so you need a stronger core design. Focus your farming base on layering walls around the Dark Elixir Storage and keeping it at least 4 buildings away from the nearest wall edge.
